St. Joseph, husband of Our Lady Feast Day ~ March
19"Saint Joseph was a just man, a tireless worker, the upright
guardian of those entrusted to his care. May he always guard, protect and
enlighten familes." - Pope John Paul II
St. Joseph has always held a special place in my heart. Perhaps it is
because I am Italian and the feast of St. Joseph was a tradition in my
family. Perhaps it is because I was baptized and confirmed in St. Joseph's
Church and my first 9 years of education were at St. Joseph's school in
Danbury, CT. Whatever the reason, I felt that St. Joseph was neglected,
overshadowed by St. Patrick, who's feast is two days before and widely
recognized. Therefore, I created this page as a labor of love, to honor
St. Joseph and maybe enlighten more people to what a special Saint he is.
It's been thirteen years since I created this page (as evidenced by the horribly basic web design). I want to thank everyone who has visited and shared their memories and stories with me.
UPDATE: 3/19/2010
Buona Festa Di San Giuseppe, everyone! I got a great email from a visitor who tipped me off to an interesting bit of canonical law. The Feast of St. Joseph is a solemnity and as such, if it falls on a Friday (as it does this year), one does not have to abstain from meat. Thank you EJC!
- The Life of St.
Joseph
- It is possible that St. Joseph is often neglected because so little
is written of him in the Sciptures. I've used some reference materials
on Saints to write a brief story of Joseph's life as well as give links
to other histories of St. Joseph.
- The Feast of St.
Joseph
- March 19 is the feast of St. Joseph and is often celebrated by
Italian communities. Includes recipes for zeppole di San Giuseppe
and other dishes for your celebration as well as links to other
ethnic traditions.
- Prayers to St.
Joseph
- St. Joseph is the patron saint of the universal Church, fathers and
workers. Here are a few prayers to St. Joseph.

A special thank you to my mother, who provided me with many of the
images of St. Joseph that I used to create this page and who always sends me a card on St. Joseph's Day (along with my Dad) 1-4-3. This page was last
updated March 19, 2010.
